Cabin (1200 sq. ft.) in ,
3.2 miles from Millinocket Lake
Listen to the sound of loons sing you to sleep. Private lakefront rustic camp with a million dollar view of Mt. Katahdin. Sits 25 feet from water. There is 425 feet of waterfront on a point. 2 docks. Private cove with sand beach and floating dock. Walk in swimming. 2 canoes and one tandem kayak. Large fire pit with log benches overlooking the lake. 3 bedrooms and a loft. Sleeps 8 people. Baxter State Park, AT trail, Rafting and Millinocket nearby. The Space Please read the entire listing for important guest information before booking!! This Camp/cabin is all hand crafted the traditional Maine way with lots of pine and ceder. The great room has a vaulted timber frame ceiling with a huge slate gas log fireplace for use on chilly nights. There is a very large outdoor fire pit with log benches for you to enjoy the campfire. Two ceiling fans for warm days. The glass enclosed sitting area overlooks the water which is only 25 feet away. There is an expansive wrap around outside deck to enjoy the view. Upon entering one will instantly notice the beautiful slate floor. The Camp has 3 bedrooms upstairs. One has a double bed. One has 2 twin beds and one has bunk beds. The top bunk is better suited for someone small. The loft has a double futon. There is also a double futon in the great room. That is a total sleeping space for 8. I do provide sheets, pillows, quilts and 2 hand towels for the bathroom, 2 kitchen towels and a bath towel for each person. Please bring your own beach towel. There is an inside 1/2 bath and a private outdoor shower with lots of hot water and a marvelous Mountain and water view. There is an additional outhouse. There is a trail through the woods leading to a private sand beach and the 2nd dock in a beautiful cove. You are welcome to bring your own small boat or jet skis and use the 2 docks. We also have blueberry bushes so fresh blueberries are available in season. This camp will allow you to relax. It is rustic yet has many conveniences. Running water is from the lake. There is drinking water from a nearby mountain spring should you choose to use it. Blue containers are in the Camp to use for storing spring water. Directions will be provided to the spring (Drink at your own risk) or you can bring your own bottled drinking water which is recommended. There is hot water and electric along with fridge, microwave and electric range. Cookware, dishware and eating utensils are provided. There is a gas grill. A high powered propane burner for cooking lobster outside is also provided with lobster pots. There is a gas log fireplace, electric fireplace and propane wall heater for heat. The wood stove is not for guest use. The original gas antique lights are still in the camp and give it that special woodsy feel! Speak to host for this amenity. Please keep in mind that this is a camp and not a house. It is on a dirt road about 3 miles from pavement and the driveway is dirt so there is going to be dust. Keep in mind that you are in the wilderness and there can also be bugs, spiders, spiderwebs etc. I do my best to keep it as clean as possible but there is no way to keep it as one would a house. This is a rustic Camp and if you are looking for perfection this is not for you!! It is not perfect but is the most perfect spot on the planet! Please come with a love for the outdoors and an appreciation of what this spot has to offer. Built with a sense of adventure, love and fun in mind. My wish is that people can enjoy the full Katahdin/Northwoods experience and have memories for many years to come! Ambajejus Lake is part of Pemadumcook Chain of Lakes that is 14 miles long and is the fifth largest body of water in Maine. It is still a true wilderness lake with much of it undeveloped. The loons are plenty and are one of my favorite things to look forward to as well as the resident eagles and many other birds and wildlife. Guest Access There are 2 canoes and a tandem kayak on the property. The huge fire pit overlooks the lake and is surrounded by log benches and 3 hammocks. There is a private sand beach on the cove side along with the 2nd floating dock. The entire property is for your use except the wood stove is not for guest use. The antique gas lights can be used after speaking to the host. Interaction with Guests Please feel free to call or text at any time before and during your stay should you have questions. I am here to help make your stay special and memorable. I can assist with guide service or just recommended what ever you might be looking for. I have a 5th wheel camper back behind the camp in the upper driveway turnaround that I use. You will pass it on the way in. I can't see the camp from where I am. The trees are thick and there is also a shed in between. I do respect your privacy. I will great you on the way in if I am there. I also have a caretaker nearby should something need to be looked after. The Neighborhood The Great North Woods and Baxter State Park are your playground. So much to explore! There is a Trading Post very close with convenience items that also makes food and has wonderful clothing and souvenirs. Next to the Trading Post there is a very nice Pub and a Restaurant. Town is 15 minutes and has 2 grocery stores. I like the Hannaford across the street from McDonald's. There is a Laundromat. Town also has several more places to eat. I recommend the Appalachian Trail Cafe for breakfast. Lots of local info will be supplied in the property. Getting Around The area has Baxter State Park Appalachian Trail Penobscot River Northwoods Trading Post Moose Watching Whitewater Rafting Hiking Canoeing Kayaking Guides & Tours Fly Fishing Boating Skydiving - Raft and Skydive in the same day Bird Watching/Loons and Eagles galore! Get AWAY FROM COVID! Lake and mountain Views !!! Private with all the fun things to do on the lake , and the newest National Park, and a view of Maine’s highest mountain. You bring in your groceries or get them delivered and you don’t have to be around anybody that you didn’t come with! It’s really spectacular .It’s heaven on earth and don’t let the ratings affect you because it’s seldom rented, which is how they rate a property! Writers, Artists, Nature Lovers, Hikers, and Families, this is for You if you want to get out of the city and into Nature!!!Listen to the call of the Loons, in your very own Golden Pond type adventure.. Our new National Monument, to become a National Park, on 87,500 acres , is a few miles from this camp, right next to Baxter State Park. The Appalachian Trail starts or ends at this Mountain. Swim in the lake right outside your front door! Canoe over to the islands and watch the eagles fly and nest! In August of 1846 Henry David Thoreau traveled near this camp and subsequently wrote his book "The Maine Woods". In the mid 1800's, The famous Hudson River Valley School Painter Frederic Edwin Church came to these lakes and painted many scenes of our Mt. Katahdin. Writers , artists, and naturalists seek out this visual and inspirational environment. 5 Lakes connect together making this a great lake for boating, kayaking, nature watching, fishing, hiking, painting, writing and relaxing. The entire front of the "camp" is all windows, facing the lake and mountain views. The downstairs consists of a custom kitchen, with live edge cedar cabinets and counter tops with antler handles. Log walls and log beamed ceilings are throughout most every room. The stove and refrigerator are new but built to replicate beautiful old 1930's styles. The stove is a 6 burner, 4 gas and 2 electric, with an electric stove and warming oven. There is a dishwasher and trash compactor as well. The separate dining area seats 6, but extensions can seat 10 to 12. A large multilevel antler chandelier hangs over head with spot lites to highlight authentic Moose Head on one gable end and a Caribou on the other, both with imposing racks! An array of choices in cutlery include faux antler handles, or red handles to match a red cardinal dinner service. A variety of pewter bowls, platters, and various animal motifs make for exciting place settings on the Ethan Allen dining table. For informal breakfasts and lunches, there is a casual table and chairs in the front window of the sitting porch, practically ON the water. The camps on either side of us can't be seen from our location. Camps across on the islands can be seen at a distance. There is a 4 bed bunk room and a very large bathroom downstairs. The large living room focal point is a floor to ceiling rock fireplace and the view from a large bay window with 2 flanking windows overlooks the long water toward the mountain. The opposing shoreline has no buildings on it because the Conservation Agency and Timberlands has left much of our area pristine, with development on only certain shorelines. Canoeing, kayaking, or boating throughout the 5 connected lakes and many secluded islands can be like a wilderness trip, without sight of camps for miles of shoreline. But, you are only 5 miles from a hospital and shopping! There is a modern laundry room behind the bathroom with an exterior exit door. Upstairs is the big master bedroom, equal in size to the downstairs living room. Pine ceilings and walls, antique oriental rugs, a king size bed, and even a treadmill in the side niche all overlook the million dollar water and mountain view. A second bedroom is on the other side of the hall way and a full bathroom is in between. There is another bedroom upstairs, but it is our lock off room for personal items. Only the master bedroom has a wall AC, because it is usually cool at night in Maine. This camp was originally built in the early 1930's from logs imported from Germany's Black Forrest, and we added on to it in the 1980's tripling it in size. Smoking is strictly forbidden. Fires in the fire place must be kept moderate to small in size. This camp is in a secluded location. You must park in a private Association parking lot and walk on a nice pathway approximately 50+- yards, over a pedestrian railroad crossing and past the neighbor's cabin. No vehicles are allowed on the path but we have an electric cart to carry things in. There is a dock over the water in front of our "camp". A canoe and 2 kayaks are available. Fairpoint wi-fi is available in the camp. We have many outdoor chairs, a hammock, and a picnic table lakeside. There are 3 TV's.Flat Screen. Cell phone use only, no hard line. Verizon works best. Wi fi too! This camo is not suitable for young children because of all our antiques, and the closeness of the lake. Although we have just changed to instant booking, and because this is our home of decades , we will require a personal conversation when they release your phone number so we can discuss rules and regulations. We are excited to share our home with you and want to be sure in advance that it's a good fit.

Our home is located on a quiet street near the Penobscot River. It is conveniently close to I-95, yet far enough away so as not to be bothered by noisy traffic. The neighborhood includes spacious yards, and anything you could want may be found by driving mere minutes into town. Enjoy all the great outdoors has to offer, then return back for hot showers, a kitchen to prepare meals and a washer and dryer for your laundry. Travelers who prefer not to explore the great outdoors (and weary explorers) may enjoy the internet access and streaming television. Nearby activities include hunting, fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, snowshoeing, wildlife tours, leaf peeping (enjoying autumn foliage) and more. We are located near the Katahdin Woods and Waterway National Monument, 28 miles from Baxter State Park and 34 miles from Mount Katahdin. Snowmobile trails can be accessed directly from the property, with no need to load a trailer and drive elsewhere. While we are 10-15 minutes outside of Millinocket, our spacious yard and quiet street make it more than worth the extra 10 miles on your way to Mount Katahdin, your whitewater rafting adventure or other expedition. We find our bird feeder empty about twice a week in the summer. We have hummingbirds that frequent our property, as well as a variety of songbirds. The honeysuckle and smoke bushes in the front yard are very popular among our feathered neighbors. Drink your morning coffee in front of the window and see how many species of birds you can spot before heading out for the day. We are currently rebuilding our breezeway entrance. No work will be performed while guests are on site. Please do pardon the appearance of our entryway while we are rebuilding.

It is close to Baxter State Park, the newly designated Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument (87,500 acres of wilderness) and beautiful Mt. Katahdin (the start or end point of the Appalachian Trail). Canada is about 1 hour away and Acadia National Park is a 2.5 hour trip. With virtually no traffic, on a dirt road, the property is very child friendly (although supervision is a must near the lake, of course). Well-behaved dogs are welcome, too! Inside, you’ll find a knotty pine interior which features a cozy living room with a large TV and a DVD player (bring your own DVD’s). A new addition to the cottage is satellite TV and high-speed internet service. There is a spacious dining area, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen has everything you might need, including a refrigerator/freezer, electric range, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, toaster oven and even a bread machine. The water is well water, from an underground spring and we do have hot water! Towels and bed linens are provided but you might want to bring beach towels. The cottage sleeps six–one bedroom has a full-sized bed with an ultra-comfy memory foam mattress and the other bedroom has two twin beds, both with memory foam mattresses. There are also two twin-sized Aerobeds that you can put on the floor for two more people. The beds are dressed with high-quality sheets and fluffy, goose down comforters are available for each. In the summer months, the bunkhouse is available and sleeps 2. The bunkhouse has no electricity and no heat and even in the summertime, nights in Maine can be fairly chilly--but it could be the perfect spot for adventurous kids with flashlights! There is no landline phone and cell service depends on your carrier. Outside, is the wild beauty of Plunkett Pond, which is a mere 50 feet from the back door. You can practically roll out of bed and into the lake! Two single-seat kayaks with paddles and life jackets are available. You can cruise the 435 acres of sparkling clean water, observing a wide variety of wildlife, including red squirrels, chipmunks, woodpeckers, muskrats, beavers, raccoons, moose, deer, fox, eagles, ospreys, kingfishers, partridge and of course, Maine’s famous loons. If you prefer to relax, you can lounge by the water’s edge, watching the reflection of the clouds in the water until you drift off into a peaceful nap in your lakeside hammock. There is also a small dock and a picnic table. In the evening, you can build a crackling fire in the outdoor firepit while listening to the loons and bull frogs. Roast some weenies or make s’mores! There is also a charcoal grill available, so you can cook your freshly caught fish on the grill! Bring your fishing gear! (Please be aware that this site, as well as any other site, has scammers. These criminals will pose as the owner of the property and steal your money. If anyone asks you to deposit money directly into a Barclays Bank account, do NOT do it, as that is the preferred bank of these types and usually, all involved are uncooperative about getting your money back, so please be careful and make sure you are dealing with the real owner. Also, please keep in mind that some weeks shown as unavailable on the calendar may still be available, so please ask if you have a specific week or weeks in mind). We would love for you to be our guests at Jennie Cottage. We like to think that our lakeside retreat captures the essence of the Maine state slogan, “Maine: Life as it should be.” Your memories of your vacation here will last a lifetime.

Cottage (600 sq. ft.) in Benedicta, ME
17.6 miles from Millinocket Lake
Located twenty feet from the water’s edge. This 600 square foot cottage was renovated in 2011. One bedroom with 1 Queen bed. New mattress.. Futon in the living room pulls out to make a second bed. Modern kitchen has custom pine cabinetry with a solid Tiger Maple countertop and includes an electric stove/oven and refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishes, bowls, pots, pans, and utensils. 37” flat-screen TV with ‘Dish’ service, and DVD/VCR player. Heat pump central heat and cooling. Board games in the toy chest. This cabin is neat and clean. Modern bathroom with new toilet and shower. Large custom dining room table, and comfortable leather furniture. Knotty pine walls and ceilings, new windows, pine and tile floors complemented with neat white window and door trim make for a very cozy and relaxing ambiance. Drilled well/tested water. New electrical service throughout including hard wired smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector. Outdoors has a water’s edge sitting area with a fire-ring, ample seating including a 2-person swing. (this is a perfect place to hang out during the day, to watch the sun set over the pond, or take in a big night sky and listen to the loons call) Propane BBQ grill. Eight foot picnic table. 36’ dock to sit out on and / or dock your boat to. Four kayaks with paddles and a large canoe are on site and available for use although you will need to supply your own life jackets to ensure a proper fit. The property also has a small shed for extra storage. The cottage is located on a private dirt road with just the local cottage traffic which is minimal. This is a great spot to spend a week relaxing and enjoying. The ‘pond’ is 435 acres with an average depth of about 20 feet. (This size body of water is considered a lake in most states) The fishing is usually very good and you will catch smallmouth bass, white perch, and pickerel. There are often sunfish under the dock if you have youngsters who want to catch a small but colorful fish. Morning or evening kayaking on the pond is great. Boat traffic is light. Swimming in the pond is good as well: you’re not at a sandy beach, but the area next to the dock is sandy/silty and makes for a good place for the kids to swim around. The water entrance is gradual, getting to about three feet at the end of the 36 foot dock, then begins to get rocky and goes to 6’ = 8’ of water at about 50’ from shore. Baxter State Park is about one hour away. Google: Baxter State Park for specific information. If you’d like to get away from camp for a day, this large state park will provide you a drive where you’ll see woods, lakes, streams, mountains and wildlife. There are many hiking opportunities in the park. A hike to Chimney Pond, located at the base of Mt. Katahdin, will provide you with a destination and vista that you will never forget. I would suggest getting up early, packing a small daypack with a lunch and water, driving to Roaring Brook Campground, and hiking the 3 mile hike (one way) to Chimney Pond to have your lunch looking over the Chimney Pond and the ‘bowl’ of Mt. Katahdin. Get back to camp for an evening BBQ and dinner sitting lakeside while watching the sun go down over Plunkett Pond. It makes for a perfect day. For the fit and adventurous, Mt Katahdin provides a world class hike and views. It’s a full day hike and the views are beautiful but please prepare accordingly. The newly crated Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument is only 13 miles from the cottage. Google Down East Magazine Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument for specific information. Fishing on the pond is very good for bass, pickerel and white perch. Ask if you have any questions, I’ve fished the pond extensively. There are many ‘woods roads’ and ATV Trails in the local area. The ATV trail is just up the road. I can give you much more information about the trail system should you desire. Many of the woods roads are navigable via SUV, pickup truck and even a sedan if you’re careful. You might see deer, moose, grouse, rabbits, waterfowl, birds, mink, pine marten, beaver, or a very occasional black bear Hunting is very good in the fall for ruffed grouse, deer, bear, and moose. The hunting is very good and there is very little posted land. There are abundant woods roads and skidder trails that provide great grouse, bear, moose and deer. The grouse hunting is excellent as is the bear hunting. Moose is by state lottery permit only. The camp is in WMD zone 11 and we are 3 miles from zone 10. 18-hole golf course in Island Falls - 30 minutes. Cell phone reception is good with Verizon and US Cellular.
